Biography Gerrit Faber (1950)

I started drawing at an early age. At the time most children lose interest in drawing and painting I got more and more involved and started to sketch and paint outdoor. At the end of my secondary school time I had to make an important decision: going to art school or to study economics at university. I opted for economics, as I felt a strong bond with developments in society, in particular with issues of poverty and development. Globalization, poverty and European integration are the subjects in which I have been doing research and have been lecturing with much pleasure at the Utrecht University School of Economics. After some years of academic work, I took up painting again and attended lessons by Marja Goud, Ruud Löwenthal and Maarten Welbergen. In recent years painting and the development of ideas for new paintings has become my main activity.
